Terms and Conditions
Last updated: August 2026
These terms and conditions govern the use of investigation services provided by InSecret ("we", "us", "our"), a private investigation practice based in Manchester, operated by Dan Dorney. By instructing us to carry out any investigation, you agree to be bound by these terms.
1. Our Services
InSecret provides private investigation services including but not limited to surveillance, background checks, tracing, corporate investigations, and legal support services such as process serving. The exact scope of work for your case will be agreed with you before any investigation begins, following a free, no-obligation consultation.
2. Client Instructions
You agree to provide accurate and complete information relevant to your case. We reserve the right to decline, pause, or terminate an investigation if the information provided is false or misleading, or if we believe the instruction would require us to act unlawfully.
3. Lawful Conduct
All investigations are carried out strictly within UK law. We do not undertake any instruction that would require illegal surveillance, trespass, harassment, or any other unlawful activity, regardless of how the request is framed. We reserve the right to refuse or withdraw from any case where we believe the client's intentions are unlawful or malicious.
4. Fees and Payment
Fees for each case are agreed with you in writing before work begins, following your free consultation. There are no hidden charges — any change to scope or cost during an investigation will be discussed and agreed with you first. Payment terms will be confirmed at the point of engagement.
5. Cancellations
You may cancel an instructed investigation at any time by contacting us directly. Any work already carried out, and any costs already incurred on your behalf, up to the point of cancellation will remain payable.
6. Confidentiality
All information relating to your case is treated as strictly confidential and is only ever discussed on a secure, need-to-know basis. We do not disclose details of any case to third parties without your consent, except where required by law.
7. Evidence and Reporting
Evidence gathered during an investigation is documented to a standard intended to be reliable if it needs to be relied upon by a solicitor or in court. We cannot, however, guarantee the outcome of any legal proceedings that evidence may be used in, as this is outside our control.
8. Limitation of Liability
While we take all reasonable care in conducting investigations, InSecret cannot guarantee a specific outcome or result for any case, including but not limited to locating a person, obtaining particular evidence, or the outcome of any legal or personal matter connected to the investigation. Our liability for any claim arising from our services is limited to the fees paid for that specific case.
9. Data Protection
We handle personal data in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Details of how we collect, use, and protect your information are set out in our Privacy Policy.
10. Complaints
If you're unhappy with any aspect of our service, please contact us directly so we can address your concerns promptly and fairly.
11. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The current version will always be available on this page, with the date of last update shown above.
12. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
